Join us for a Chanting and Kritan event at Bani's home on the 2nd Friday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00pm. There will be Sanskrit Chants as well as English and other languages. This is an opportunity for you to lead chants if you would like. Bani will lead a few, and then others can lead one or more! You may bring a percussion instrument to accompany the harmonium. Or just come to listen and bathe in the good vibes! We will be outdoors during good weather. Bring a water bottle, chair, yoga mat, cushion or blanket to sit on.
Contact Bani through email or by phone to join our group and other Chanting & Kirtan activities in the Rochester area.

Kirtan is a form of devotional singing or chanting, originating in the Indian subcontinent, that involves the call-and-response singing of sacred mantras, names of deities, or spiritual verses. It is a key practice in various Indian spiritual traditions, especially within Bhakti Yoga, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Gaudiya Vaishnavism.
Typically performed in a group setting, kirtan is accompanied by traditional instruments such as the harmonium, tabla, mridanga, and kartals (hand cymbals). The atmosphere of a kirtan can range from meditative and serene to energetic and ecstatic, aiming to awaken spiritual emotion and devotion (bhakti) in the hearts of participants.
In kirtan, a lead singer (or kirtankar) sings a line or mantra, and the group responds, creating a dynamic and communal experience. The repetitive nature of the chant helps focus the mind, elevate the spirit, and cultivate a deep sense of unity and presence.
More than just music, kirtan is often considered a spiritual practice that transcends language and religion, inviting participants to connect with the divine, with others, and with their own inner stillness.
