Before we had words, we had movement. Before we had language, we had sound. Our ancestors healed together through rhythm, voice, and dance. Somewhere along the way many of us learned to become quiet, small, and still. This weekend is about remembering what the body already knows.
When movement and sound combine, there is something almost magical that happens. Rhythm organizes the nervous system, movement organizes the body, breath organizes physiology and our voice organizes emotion. Together they create an integrated experience that engages nearly every part of the person. Instead of simply talking about healing........we experience healing!
but stopping because someone might be watching? Or wanting to sing along with a song you love... but keeping your voice quiet because you're afraid someone might hear?
Maybe you've thought...
"I'm not a dancer."
"I can't sing."
"I'd feel so awkward."
"People would judge me."
If so, you're not alone.
Most of us weren't born feeling self-conscious. As children, we moved because it felt good. We sang because our hearts were full. We laughed loudly, took up space, and expressed ourselves without wondering whether we were doing it "right."
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that it felt safer to become quieter, smaller, and less expressive. We began to hold ourselves back—not because there was something wrong with us, but because some part of us believed it was the safest thing to do.
Those protective parts deserve our compassion.
But they were never meant to become permanent prisons.
Imagine for a moment what it might feel like if those walls became just a little softer. Imagine discovering that your body isn't something to hide, but something to inhabit. That your voice isn't something to judge, but something to enjoy. That movement isn't about performance—it's about freedom. That singing isn't about sounding beautiful—it's about feeling alive.
This retreat isn't about learning choreography or becoming a better singer.
It isn't about performing.
It isn't about being watched.
It's about gently creating a space where your nervous system can relax enough to remember something it has always known: your body was designed to move, your voice was designed to be heard, and self-expression is one of the most natural forms of being human.
Throughout the weekend, we'll explore the science of movement, rhythm, breath, and sound, while compassionately working with the protective parts of ourselves that have learned to stay hidden. Through gentle movement, vocal toning, singing, mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), you'll be invited—not pushed—to take small, meaningful steps toward greater freedom.
No one will ask you to perform.
No one will expect you to sing a solo.
No one will ask you to dance in a way that feels uncomfortable.
You'll simply be invited to become curious about what might be possible if you no longer allowed fear to make all the decisions.
Because here's what I've learned after years of teaching: on the other side of self-consciousness is often joy. On the other side of inhibition is vitality. On the other side of fear is a freedom that many people haven't felt since they were children.
The greatest prison isn't made of steel.
It's the invisible cage created by the belief that we must constantly hold ourselves back.
My hope for this retreat is not that you leave as a dancer or a singer.
My hope is that you leave feeling more fully alive.
If something inside you is quietly whispering, "I wish I could feel that free," perhaps it's not a sign that this retreat is too much for you.
Perhaps it's a sign that it's exactly where you're meant to be.
Awaken Your Aliveness: Healing Through Movement, Sound & Self-Expression
Come exactly as you are.
Leave a little more like yourself.

We will be staying at the Light on the Hill Lodge
where there are 18 single rooms. There are also 4 double rooms
if you choose to room with a friend!
The comfortable rooms offer quiet havens for resting and reflecting upon your retreat experiences. They each have a large window overlooking the beautiful grounds.
There are several community indoor and outdoor spaces to
relax and chat with new friends, read a book or journal.

Light on the Hill’s cooks prepare meals in the lodge’s commercial kitchen. Meals at Light on the Hill are gourmet vegetarian with many vegan options. They use organic ingredients wherever possible. The cooks receive high praise about the food that is served.
Light On The Hill cooks are able to accommodate simple dietary restrictions such as gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan. However, if a person has a more restrictive diet than this, they suggest that the person bring their own food. Those wanting meat may bring cold cuts and cans of tuna, etc. but no meat is allowed to be cooked on the premises.

I will be leading Yoga classes throughout the weekend and will be offering modifications for people newer to the practice and also extensions for those who are more experienced for a complete mind/body reset at this Women's Retreat March 2025

The term "forest bathing" emerged in Japan in the 1980s as a physiological and psychological exercise called shinrin-yoku (“forest bathing” or “taking in the forest atmosphere”). The purpose is twofold: to offer an eco-antidote to tech-boom burnout and to allow participants to reconnect with the natural design of nature.

We will have opportunities each day to enjoy the beautiful 236 acres of woods, streams, gorges, and walking paths. It offers a panoramic views as distant as Pennsylvania.
Researchers are now amassing a body of evidence, proving what we all know to be true: nature is good for us and has both long and short term mental and physical health benefits.

JourneyDance™ is a transformational dance form that combines freestyle and structured movement to inspire you to get out of your mind and into your body.
The JourneyDance™ Transformational Dance Movement Flow leads participants on a ritual journey of physical and emotional transformation .
There is no previous dance experience necessary!

Circle Work is a nurturing and spacious practice that honors the feminine spirit. Women sit in a circle and hold sacred space to listen deeply, both to their own hearts and souls and to one another. These circles create ripples of healing and transformation and foster inner and outer peace.

You will experience a transformation through all of our rejuvenating practices, Mindful Yoga, Meditation, Gatherings, along with free time for reflection, connection with nature, Journeydance and more.

I have been an artist educator since 2005, working with people of all ages. Working at an international school in Macau, China for over ten years gave me a new perspective. It's been great to be back in Rochester, where I continue to share art experiences with people of all ages. I love to work with color and delve deeply into different materials. Getting 'lost' in this space of creation, I am developing my inner world, and have a dialogue with myself. This process itself becomes a meditation, a new space of thought and reflection.
The Retreat Includes:
• Comfortable lodging in a private (or shared) room.
• All classes & programs
• Dinner Friday night
• 3 meals on Saturday
• Sunday breakfast
• Art Experience and Supplies
