Who am I beyond my work—and how do I want to live this next chapter?
Whether retirement is a few years away, you have recently retired, or you have been retired for a while and feel unsettled, this course offers space to explore those questions in a supportive community.
You've spent years preparing financially for this next chapter, but have you prepared psychologically and emotionally? For years, retirement may have seemed like the ultimate reward: more freedom, less responsibility, time to travel, pursue interests, and finally enjoy life on your own terms. But most people report this next chapter to bring feelings they weren't expecting. They are surprised to discover that they miss the structure of working life, the sense of accomplishment or the connections they once had. Others feel guilty when they're not being productive or find themselves rushing to fill the open hours with tasks, chores, or caregiving for others, almost as if empty space feels uncomfortable.

Most of us know we need a financial plan for the next chapter. But how do we prepare for the changes in identity, purpose, and daily life that come with this transition?
Think about when we were seniors in high school or college, preparing to graduate and step into the next chapter of our lives. It was a time filled with excitement, anticipation, possibilities, and perhaps a little uncertainty. We were leaving behind something familiar and preparing to enter a new phase of life, one that would bring greater freedom, new choices, and opportunities to discover who we wanted to become.
Now, as seniors in life, we're standing at another important threshold. Yet somehow, our culture often portrays retirement as an ending rather than a beginning. What if we approached this transition with the same curiosity, enthusiasm, and sense of possibility that we had when we were younger?
And in some ways, this new chapter holds even greater possibilities. When we were young, much of our attention was focused on building careers, earning a living, accumulating resources, and establishing ourselves in the world. Our choices were often shaped by financial necessities and the expectations of others. But now, for many of us, those pressures may begin to ease. Rather than asking, "What do I need to do to make a living?" we have the opportunity to ask, "What would make my life truly meaningful and fulfilling?" We may have more freedom than ever before to explore our interests, rediscover forgotten passions, nurture relationships, and pursue experiences simply because they bring us joy.
Of course, just as we wouldn't expect a young graduate to navigate an entirely new chapter of life without some preparation, we shouldn't assume that a fulfilling retirement will simply happen on its own. Our mindset, expectations, and the choices we make can have a profound influence on how we experience these years.
This course isn't about financial planning. It's about understanding ourselves more deeply as we enter a new season of life.
Through guided meditations, mindfulness practices, personal reflection, journaling exercises, IFS and supportive group discussions, we'll explore the beliefs, expectations, and patterns that influence how we experience mid to later life transition. Rather than offering a prescribed formula for a successful retirement, I'll guide you through a process of discovering what a meaningful and fulfilling next chapter might look like for you. Because there's no single right way to retire—and there's certainly no age at which we stop growing, learning, and discovering new possibilities.
Retirement isn't the end of our story. It's the beginning of a new chapter, and we have an opportunity to be intentional about how we write it.
When Retirement Doesn't Go as Planned:
We often enter the next chapter with dreams and expectations of how these years will unfold. But sometimes, life has other plans. Unexpected health challenges or caregiving needs can dramatically change our retirement experience. And those circumstances can bring difficult emotions—disappointment, frustration, sadness, or even grief for the evolving life we had hoped for.
In this course, we'll explore how to navigate these challenges, while still honoring our own needs and remaining open to new possibilities. Acceptance doesn't mean giving up. It means discovering how to create a meaningful life within the circumstances we actually have. Even if retirement looks different than we imagined, there's still room for joy, connection, and purpose.

We'll meet live on Zoom for eight consecutive Tuesday evenings from 7:00p - 8:15pm,
beginning January 5 and continuing through February 23, 2027. Each session will be 75 minutes long.
Our time together will offer a thoughtful blend of learning, self-exploration, and meaningful reflection. Depending on the week's theme, sessions may include:
The exploration doesn't end when our Zoom session does!
Each week, you'll receive journaling prompts to encourage further reflection, a recorded guided meditation or reflection to revisit at your convenience, and a suggested action step to help you bring what you're discovering into your everyday life.
These activities are invitations rather than assignments. You're encouraged to engage with them in whatever way feels meaningful and manageable for you.
A welcoming and supportive environment
This course is designed to be a comfortable space for personal exploration. While group discussions can be a valuable part of the experience, sharing is always completely voluntary. You're welcome to participate by listening, reflecting, and learning from others without feeling any pressure to speak about your personal experiences.
No previous experience with meditation, mindfulness, or Internal Family Systems (IFS) is necessary. Just bring your curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to explore the possibilities of this next chapter of your life.

You do not need to have your next chapter figured out. You are welcome to begin with questions.
No previous meditation or IFS experience is needed.
By the end of our eight weeks together, you'll have had the opportunity to:
Most importantly, you'll begin to approach this chapter of life not as something you need to have completely figured out, but as an opportunity to discover what truly matters to you.

Across eight weeks, we will explore the following themes, with room for the questions and experiences that arise in our group.
Explore your hopes, concerns, and beliefs about aging and retirement. Discover language for this season that reflects your own possibilities.
Reconnect with your values and personal qualities beyond your professional role. Explore dignity and worth that do not depend on productivity.
Acknowledge what you may miss or have already lost, including colleagues, routine, recognition, and a familiar identity. Allow relief and sadness to coexist without rushing toward a positive outlook.
Through gentle IFS-informed reflection, meet the parts that push you to stay busy, fear becoming irrelevant, or long for freedom and rest.
After decades of schedules, responsibilities, and productivity, slowing down can feel surprisingly uncomfortable. We may feel guilty resting or find ourselves filling every available moment with activity. We'll explore how to release some of that pressure and discover the richness of a less hurried life—more meaningful connections, simple pleasures, and greater presence. What might become possible if you no longer measured the value of your day by how much you accomplished?
There is no one-size-fits-all approach and no single right way to navigate this time in our lives. You might choose to retire gradually, explore an entirely new direction, continue doing the work you love with more flexibility or step away from work altogether. And what feels right today may change tomorrow and thats ok! We'll explore how to navigate these options with curiosity and flexibility, giving ourselves permission to experiment and change course until we find a path that aligns with our own needs, values and sense of purpose.
Explore creativity, friendship, learning, play, and opportunities to share your wisdom. Remember that you do not need to take on another useful role to deserve worth. The concept of Dharma - an exploration of dharma, including exercises that help participants rediscover lifelong interests, natural gifts, and what makes them feel most alive.
Bring your discoveries into a flexible rhythm with space for meaningful engagement, connection, and rest.
Bani is an experienced Mindfulnes and Meditation teacher, retreat leader, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) practitioner who has spent many years helping others cultivate greater self-awareness, navigate life's challenges, and discover more meaningful and fulfilling ways of living. She is a New York State certified teacher and has earned certification to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) through the University of California, San Diego's Center for Mindfulness.
Her own journey has given her a unique perspective on retirement and life's transitions. After stepping away from her career in education approximately ten years ago, she discovered that what others considered retirement was actually the beginning of an exciting new chapter. She transitioned into teaching yoga, meditation, and facilitating opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery. Over time, she has continued to reshape her work and lifestyle, recognizing that retirement doesn't necessarily mean stepping away from meaningful work, but rather redefining how we want to live.
Drawing upon her experience with mindfulness, compassionate self-exploration, and reflective group experiences, Bani brings a thoughtful and supportive approach to navigating the emotional and psychological aspects of retirement.
Through this course, she invites participants to explore the changing roles, identities, expectations, and possibilities that accompany this stage of life. Her intention is to help others approach this transition with greater self-understanding, acceptance, and curiosity while reconnecting with their own wisdom, sense of purpose, and possibilities for the years ahead.
Bani believes that retirement isn't simply about what we're leaving behind, but about discovering what we're ready to move toward.

Home practice is an invitation to explore, rather than another task to achieve. You can adapt the reflections to your own circumstances and choose how much you share.
This course focuses on the personal and emotional dimensions of retirement and changes in work. It does not provide financial planning advice.

"Taking Bani's virtual meditation class last year was such a meaningful and transformative experience for me. The experience not only strengthened my connection to mindfulness but also opened doors to new opportunities, personal growth, and a deeper understanding of myself.
The impact of this class inspired me to continue exploring meditation, both in my personal life and through sharing the practice with others. I decided to take the next step in my journey by pursuing the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training Program to further deepen my knowledge and practice.
I'm incredibly grateful for this experience and the path it has helped me discover. I would recommend teachings from Bani to anyone who is curious in deepening their practice or simply seeking a more mindful and meaningful way of living."
